Surf photography by Ron Woolhether
Awe F’shore Photography is owned and operated by Ron Woolhether. He’s better known as Awe F’shore or Awe.
Awe is originally from Long Beach, CA, and has spent the better part of his life surfing and bodysurfing along the shores of the Southern California coastline.
In the early through mid-90’s, he expanded his entrepreneurial horizons and ran a small graphics arts studio and partnered in the operation of an industrial hemp/organic clothing retail store. Even though he has been experimenting with photography as a hobbyist throughout most of my adult life, it wasn’t until early 2004 when he started shooting photos of the surf before or after paddling out, that it turned into a passion that was generating as much stoke as surfing itself (well, almost). He currently split his time between shooting and performing the duties of an electrical building inspector.

Credit for the concept of the mythical character Awe F’shore is respectfully given to Drew Kampion, who created him in the story “The Long-Ago Tale of the Unending Wave,” published in the Dec./Jan. (’74/’75) issue of SURFING magazine.
Awe F’shore made another appearance in “A Long-Ago Tale of the Birth of Mystic Eye” in 1975. He was pretty stoked by these stories of surf loving costal nomads from a time long ago and he eventually adopted one of the character’s names, Awe F’shore, as his nickname - an especially fitting one due to his love of offshore (Awe F’shore) winds and everything surf.
