Incredible 2006 ASP Season Creates History
Surfersvillage Global Surf gives a flashback of the great 2006 ASP in a nice article:
“[…] A rejuvenated ASP Men’s Longboard Championship engaged the warm waters of Costa Rica in 06, and looks toward expansion over the coming years. A new discipline was incorporated into official championship status this year. The Inaugural Roxy ASP Women’s World Championship was conducted as part of the Biarritz Surf Festival, and a celebration it was as the aficionados of the women’s discipline strutted their stuff in this magical surf city.
Of course, all the World Champions will be crowned at Jupiter’s Casino on the Gold Coast in a gala black tie function on Saturday February 24, on the eve of a new tour launch. The last of the World Championships will be decided at North Narrabeen in the first week of January.
Two ASP World Titles are on offer in the Billabong ASP World Junior Championships. This event has been the launching pad for several generations of ASP Champions and the inaugural Junior Women’s division of last year proved to be a parallel of rising excellence, with the emergence of Jessi Miley-Dyer and Stephanie Gilmore.
