The great white shark - the ultimate horror of a surfer. But we don’t know much about this predator. A new research project starts to uncover all the question marks. How? With the help of a little shark…

USAToday reports about a new project to discover the myths and mysteries around the great white shark. Researchers at the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California keep an eye at their little great white shark, the second-longest great white to survive in captivity.

Earlier, researchers tried to track great whites via satellite. The result showed that great white shark population could be found around the Farallon Islands west of San Francisco, in the Marin Headlands to the north and at the rocky coastal point Año Nuevo to the south, but also around Mexico’s Guadalupe Island, on the Chilean coast, in Spencer Bay in southern Australia and off South Africa. They like chilly waters associated with Mediterranean climates.

One hypothesis about the entire great white shark population says there are no more than 5,000.
