Beside surfing, Costa Rica is an El Dorado for mountain bikers. Not a bad idea, if you want to explore the country from the saddle.

The most well known race for mountain bikers is La Ruta de los Conquistadores, a coast-to-coast off-road adventure. The participants are 90 % amateurs and want to enjoy the diversity of landscape and nature on their way from the the Pacific ocean to the Carribean.

The race is known for its harsh conditions, heat and wild paths. Even the best bikers must step down and push their bikes. Once in the highlands, the cooler air is the only nice side effect for the bikers: they must climb up to 3.000 meters close to the peak of volcano Irazù. On day three, the Carribean coast is reached.

If you are a passionate biker, you should consider this.
