A typical day at Zopilote: from a guest’ view - II

Before breakfast (read part I of this series), you would have to work. You would have fun, and you would be in the wet element. The morning surf session is fabulous, silent and original.

The dogs can’t wait to head down to the beach, as me. We’re all prepared and standing in front of the car, surfboards tied to the car’s roof, towel around the neck. We’re all set and waiting for some “sleepers” who will come out of their beds slowly. On some mornings I decided to walk down to the beach, a short ten minutes walk in shirt, shorts and flip-flops.

As you walk down, you can be sure Ivy and Lucy will come along you, looking around, running for fun or just disappearing behind a bush. However they will follow or guide you to the beach, where an untouched sand waits for your traces.

A few minutes later, the truck arrives and you pick your board, attach it to your foot and go. The water is sursprisingly warm, even in the morning, and I don’t have any doubts to leave or shorten my surf. Even in the water the dogs want to follow you, but at some point they have to return because the waves are too big for them.

Other guests may join you in the water, others will walk down the beach, or do some other activities like running. Whatever you decided to do, you won’t meet a lot of people along. That’s one of the qualities I like about the place at Zopilote, because it’s very private. You have your own waves, your own beach and your own shells. It makes it easier for surf beginners because I could focus on my surf techniques and not on others.

Some of the guests left the water earlier, they were tired, brought their board in and took out their book to read, or just laid down to relax. Some went looking for shells, and for the very tired one, they would walk up to the camp for a shower or a hammock. For me, a surf session in the morning was never the same, and depending on my daily constitution and mood, I would stay the complete two hours in the waves or try to take some fotos of my wife surfing.
