‘Surfari’ Through the Nicoya Peninsula

An interesting article about traveling and surfing in Costa Rica - this time about a surfari through the Nicoya Peninsula.

“Looking out at the water, I was unsure as to whether we should paddle out. There were only a few surfers in the murky green water and it looking like what we surfers call “seasick,” a mushy whirlpool of uneven waves. This was far from the clean lines of “corduroy” surfers pant over, but Sam was “stoked” to simply be in Costa Rica.

“Let’s go out,” he said enthusiastically, dragging his nearly 9-foot board down the beach into the bath-temperature water. Being a good sport, I decided to humor him and head out in spite of the fact that there were only three guys surfing and none of us caught much. It was definitely not “six foot and glassy,” but it didn’t take much to put huge smiles on our faces and for me to realize that we could just relax. We were in Costa Rica after all.
