How to get from Australia / New Zealand to Costa Rica by air travel?
For Australians and New Zealanders, Costa Rica is a second alternative as a surf destination. There are two routes to Costa Rica:
- via the US: American Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways, Air New Zealand, Mexicana, Qantas
- via South America / Central America: more expensive, time consuming option
The common, over-US route takes around 21 hours (from London, UK it’s about 15 hrs). The major hub for Costa Rica in the US is Miami, although they exist direct flights from Los Angeles too. Consult your travel agent!
Visa requirements: Australians and New Zealanders may enter Costa Rica without a visa and remain for up to 90 days.
