Seasons: wet in Costa Rica, crocs in Australia
Surfers are aware of surf and crowd conditions - and most places offer a certain time window for our beloved sport. Where spots can be accessed and surfed only a few months or weeks, there are also places with a year-through surf availability. Let’s see, what’s going on in Costa Rica now and in East Australia.
Costa Rica’s climate is dominated by two main seasons - the dry (November to April) and the wet season (May to October). This year, the wet season is very dry, which is ok for all visitors due to the fact that the wet season is the low (=cheap) season. The roads are accessible, the weather beautiful with occasional showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon or during night.
Now, as the wet season will last one more month, all Costa Rica is waiting for rain to come to fill up water reserves. Otherwise, many houses and hotels must buy additional water to their tanks as the natural sources dries up during the winter. More about Costa Rica weather and surf conditions in November here…

Other problems than beautiful weather worries surfers and swimmers in Australia these months: jelly fish and crocodiles. Vicious jelly fish can be deadly, and native swimmers wear their stinger suits, a full-body nylon suit to protect their skin.
As known, these suits won’t help you against salt-water crocodiles. These animals lay their eggs (in the winter months) in the ocean and close to the shore. But you won’t see them, so you can’t stay away from their nest. Needless to say that they don’t like it…
Rule: follow the signs posted at the beach or ask locals.
