Cobano, Costa Rica: your hub for surf

Cobano is kind of a hub in the southern part of the Nicoya Peninsula: almost all roads to the beaches in south or west (Mal Pais, Santa Teresa and also to the home surf of Zopilote surf camp) of peninsula pass through this city.

With the rise of tourism in this region, Cobano grew from a sleepy village to a bustling place where tourists could manage their „business“ – booking hotels, getting cash, or seek for medical assistance.

Most important to travellers is the bank in town, a local branch of Banco Nacional de Costa Rica, which is the only bank in the southern part of the peninsula. Credit cards (Visa and Master Card) are accepted, but it’s better to settle all financial affairs in San José or Puntarenas. It’s said that changing Euros is charged with a 10% (!) conversion fee.

You’ll find in Cobano also a post office (close to the police station), some food stores, a bus stop and also medical assistance (pharmacy, dentists and even a small hospital).
