The USA Today features a list of the most secure and the worst places for single woman travellers. Among the best places is Costa Rica. Here the recommended countries / cities:

• Middle East & Northern Africa
• The Mediterranean Coast
• The United States
• Latin America & the Caribbean
• States of the former U.S.S.R.

Travelling within Costa Rica is easier than in other countries in Central America and done by bus or private cars. Bus is always a good option because it is very cheap and reliable. (More: How to travel from San Jose to Mal Pais)

Among the worst places to travel is Latin America. For me, this is very general and I disagree with that. Cities like Buenos Aires are very liberal for South America and one of the best places to go.
