Costa Rica is famous for his rich nature - although a small country, 4% of all creatures and plants of the world call Costa Rica their home (read this article for more information). But Costa Rica is not an island of heaven, and it is confronted with problems, which endanger their biodiversity - pollution, restriction of primary habitats etc.

One very popular measure is to protect habitats by creating reserves and National Parks like the Corcovado National Park. Another way to help populations to survive are animal farms or hospitals where animals can be observed and feeded.

A way to help such projects is to contribute by personal work. You will be placed in one of the many national parks and work with the staff - sometimes at night during patrols at Sea turtle conservation projects.

Placements are various and you can contact the project directly to participate. One agency (Escape to the real world) will arrange to do this. But be prepared - there is no running water in the camps, there is no electricity and communications to the rest of the world. And you have to pay for your stay.
