Ok, this is not Costa Rica, this is not sunny, warm weather, and it’s not about surfing. But: snowkiting is a pretty adventuresome way to travel, shown by 3 extreme sport guys in North Dakota. Check out their site, it’s fun.

If you try to do it, pray for wind from the right direction … and enough snow.

Responsible travel: StepUpTravel

Friday, January 11th, 2008

This is an important site for any travellers:

” Step Up Travel is a travel classifieds site, established to allow local small enterprises and individuals publish web-page advertisements of their own unique cultural services, activities, and goods so that travelers can connect directly with them as an alternative to larger more commercial options.

By using Step Up Travel Classifieds and connecting directly with locals, travelers are able to learn of more obscure and fascinating activities, while also helping redirect money away from the commercial tourism industry and toward the people who make their culture what it is.

StepUpTravel

Step Up Travel was founded to help empower local enterprises compete in an industry dominated by tourism agencies. Aligning itself with the United Nations’ ST-EP initiative (Sustainable Tourism-Eliminating Poverty), Step Up Travel prides itself in being an freer marketplace for the travel industry, granting equal access to all service providers and helping redistributing wealth in a world that suffers from broadening inequalities.

Step Up Travel is also a trusted network of socially-minded travelers who can exchange ideas and recommendations, advocate for responsible travel practices, and seek meaningful interactions with local people when they travel. Through www.stepuptravel.org, Step Up Travelers have the unique opportunity to recommend and promote specific service providers they have met along the way, in order to help travelers and local people find and come to know one another.”

Well, we at Zopilote feel part of the Costa Rican lifestyle and, even don’t have a classified at StepUpTravel, we will show you the surroundings and the art of living here around Santa Teresa.

On the way to Santa Teresa

Monday, May 28th, 2007

Last week I found a travel report about two North Americans traveling to Santa Teresa. I thought that my be interesting for you, and also their housing in our small town: on a camp ground. This may be definitely the cheapest way to pass vacation in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica, I’m sure there will not forget the thunderstorm in their tent.

You can read the complete story of Sarah and Garry here.

Surfer life style - stories

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

It’s interesting how surfing can be such an integral part of life. “Interesting” is probably the wrong term to describe this, from an insider perspective. But what means “surfing” to you? Let us know and comment!

I just read a story about a father and a son from Surf City, North Carolina. They work together, they surf together. They say surfing made them close friends. And Zack, the son, adds: “I’ve learned probably more on my trips around the world than I have in pretty much most of my classes in school, as far as lifelong lessons, how to be a better person and realizing how good you have it.” How true!

Talking about school, I have to tell you about Mr. T or Tucker, teacher at the Siuslaw West, the Florence (Oregon) district’s alternative high school. Tucker is definetively different, quoting Bob Marley, drinking Kombucha tea and display skateboards in his class room. We don’t have to mention that Tucker surfs… Tucker himself is a story right enough to read.

Travel reports from Costa Rica

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

This week, Cecilia and Kevin explore the country of Costa Rica and tell us about their experience. Check their nice pics, and follow their trip!

Another interesting story, this time not from Costa Rica, but about, you know, surfing, postulates: real surfers don’t wear business suits. Well, have your own opinion on this.

For all of you who think to study at the University in San José, should maybe follow this blog - it is not much to see yet, but Robert is supposed to stay for a complete year.

And finally the travel story of Roro, crossing Central America.
